Zoo World In Panama City Beach

Do Animals Have Your Heart?

Do you like animals like I do? I appreciate the geckos that run around my yard as much as the next guy, but there's more. Zoo World in Panama City Beach is a great local zoo where exotic animals from all over live and are waiting for you.

This Panama City Beach zoo was one of the first adventures I chose to do when I moved to the area. After going and enjoying it so much the first time, I was happy to find I could opt for an annual pass, allowing me a year's entry to see these wonderful creatures any time I wanted to. I usually journey there every couple of weeks. Those furry dudes put a smile on my face. 😁

It's easy to find as you're cruising down the main drag of Front Beach Road. Be sure to have a good breakfast before hand, because you're going to be there a while...

What To Expect At Zoo World In Panama City Beach...

You can expect a large, nicely themed park that is easy to maneuver around and has animals to cuddle and experience everywhere you turn.

Who's At Zoo World?

It's clean, laid out well, all the animal enclosures are clean and comfortable for them, and there's interesting information that you can learn about them all. The areas of the world you will find them, what they eat, who their enemies are, whether they are endangered or not, and more is laid out for you. By the time you're through, you'll be well educated.

How about the critters? As you wander through the exhibits at Zoo World Zoological Park, you'll find:

  • Capybaras
  • Over 80 giant alligators
  • Kangaroos
  • Tony, the giraffe (my name sake!)
  • Lemurs
  • Sloths
  • Bengal Tigers
  • Hyenas
  • Bears
  • Giant porcupines
  • Large tortoises
  • Ostriches
  • Tapirs
  • Flamingos
  • And so many more...

Building Memories...

Whenever you do something of this sort, especially with children, it produces some special memories. Here's a few of mine:

The Siamang gibbons have their area right next to where the Capybaras are, with a smallish stream of water separating the two. Well, on this particular day I was there, the Capybaras decided to pay a visit to those swinging monkeys. Everyone needs friends. Right?

So, they swam across and made themselves at home. Everybody seemed like they were going to make nice, with one of the monkeys even offering a banana to one of the Capybaras. It didn't last long though. They must have overstayed their welcome. One of the gibbons started running around and shoving on the rear-ends of their neighbors, as if to say, "Thanks for coming. Now, GOME HOME!" It was pretty amusing.

Another time, I visited with a friend of mine and we went into the free flight aviary area they have, where dozen of budgies fly around inside and you are allowed to feed them. At the front desk, you can purchase these popsicle sticks with bird feed attached to one end (a lot of times, you can find them laying around inside the aviary or other visitors may offer you theirs when they are done).

Anyway, she was standing with her budgie sticks held out and, not only did she get some hungry birds lighting on her hands to gobble up the feed, but there must have been a half dozen who flew down, lighting on her hat and shoulders! She had quickly become a budgie Christmas tree! It was really quite a sight and we both enjoyed those moments so much.

There's more memories I can share, but I want you to make your own and then share them with me and my readers down below. It's always fun to hear that sort of thing.

But WAIT! There's More...

They have special petting areas where you can get up close and personal with goats, deer, alpacas, donkeys, and bunnies. The kids flip out over it! I dig it too, because, you know...KID AT HEART!

If you choose to, you can sign up for their Animal Encounters, allowing you to snuggle the Capybaras, sloths, and kangaroos. It's a little spendy, in my opinion, but an experience you'll probably get once in a lifetime. Often times, something that puts a smile on your face for years to come is worth a little extra cash.

They have a comfortable eating area where you can get hotdogs, soft pretzels, ice cream, and some goofy named drinks to cool you off. There are a lot of places throughout the park where you can sit and take a load off, if you want or need to. That's really nice for old dudes like me.

As you exit the park, it leads you into their gift shop (that's just smart marketing!), where you can purchase t-shirts, hats, DVDs and CDs, stuffed animals, more snacks and refreshments, and home-made honey. They have a few solitary bee houses (I guess that's what they are called), where live bees make it up for them to bottle and share with all of us. 🐝

If you're having a birthday, they can even set you up a special event. They host school groups, too. They really have thought of everything.

In Summary...

All in all, I think you'll have a great time. They are pretty consistent in building and expanding the park, so you never know what you may get to see and do next. As I said, for me, an annual pass to spend as much or little time in the park as I choose is a must-have. Around the holiday's, annual passes are dirt cheap, so look out for those.
